Cables and motor lead extensions (MLE)

Cables

Borets supplies ESPS cable of any manufacturers (at customer's request) in any quantity: both round and flat manufactured on the new modern equipment.

Admissible continuous current on cables KESBP-230 Kelaf and KESBkP-230 Kelaf pulled in formation fluid

EPOP cable consists of the three copper annealed tinned conductors each of which insulated with EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) film, lead sheath and nylon braid. Three insulated conductors placed in one section are wound with steel tape galvanized from 4 sides.

KEPOP cable as against to the EPOP has additional insulation consisting of two polyimide-fluoroplastic tape films with 50% overlap in each film placed on copper strand prior to EPDM film, and additional sheath from polyvinyl-fluoride tape placed over the lead sheath.

The high-temperature cable at the customer’s request can have corrosion-resistant armor of Monel or stainless steel.

Values of maximum current loads vs. ambient temperature

KESBP-230 Kelaf cable and KESBkP-230 Kelaf  cable:

  • execution of wire: copper solid-drawn, tin-plated
  • insulation: EPDM rubber, patented composition, ensures perfect electric specifications

    Specification

    Requirement of GOST R 51777-2001

    Actual factor

Leakage of current at testing voltage 18 kV per 1 km and temperature 20°Ñ, mcÀ Not more than 50 Not more than 10
Electrical resistivity of insulation per 1 km and at the temperature 20 °Ñ, ÌOhm Not less than 500 Not less than 2500
  • sheath: manufactured of lead alloy, protects insulation from the impact of formation fluid and free gas
  • braid: manufactured of synthetic yarns made of materials resistant to chemicals, reduces mechanical impact of armor during cable operation
  • armor: manufactured of steel zinc-plated strip (KESBP), applied with overlap 50 %; available is also armor made of stainless steel strip (KESBkP)
  • cable is capable to stand crushing load not less than 158 kN (16000 kg)
  • insulated cable wires maintain leakproof at differential pressure of fluid – 0.1 MPa per 1 meter.
  • minimal cable bending radius - 380 mm.

Motor lead extension

Motor lead extension with pothead is spliced with power cable in order to supply power from the surface to the PED submersible electric motor.
Motor lead extension consists of the pothead with round current entry and flat high-temperature cable with allowable temperature during round-trips up to -40 °F (-40 °C) and maximum operating temperature up to 445 °F (230 °C).
The cast or milled pothead housing is made of stainless steel or Ni-resist.
Pothead sealing is provided by standard round rings made of high-temperature rubber.
Pothead design secures from oil diffusion and entering the formation fluid both along the inner housing surface and along the lead sheath and EPDM insulation on each strand.
EPDM integrity is ensured by O-rings installed between insulating washers with special grooves made of high-temperature (up to 445 °F (up to 230 °C)) Ryton material.
Fluoroplastic bushings prevent the possibility of current losses from plug terminals to pothead housing and protect EPDM from oil diffusion.
Pothead housing shank is filled with heat-resistant oil-waterproof compound, which additionally seals and effectively fixes the cable in the pothead. Sealing properties of pothead connection with motor head is ensured by rubber O-ring along the conical surface of the pothead lead-in collar or by two O-rings in the radial grooves.
